GLENN MILLER MEETS COUNT BASIE The Robert Holts Orchestra is pleased to bring to you this performance of some of the greatest and most popular songs ever recorded by Glenn Miller and Count Basie. Hearing these great Big Band styles played side by side will give you a rare opportunity to hear the wide range sounds in the musical genre called “swing”. This afternoon you will hear a fascinating comparison between the hotter, more intimate style of Count Basie, and the tighter, technically more difficult styling of Glenn Miller. Indeed, as the curtain opens on this performance you will hear the most recognizable Big Band theme song ever recorded, the beautiful “Moonlight Serenade” as originally played by Glenn Miller. But as a special treat, the band will go directly into the Count Basie theme song, “April in Paris”, without a break in the music. Rarely will you get to hear these styles played together for comparison in this manner, so relax, and enjoy the fireworks when Glenn Miller Meets Count Basie.
